San Telmo is one of the most ancient and traditional oldest areas in Buenos Aires. It is part of the historical center of the city and much of its architectural heritage is well-preserved. Its cobbled streets, typical houses and yards with cisterns evoke a living picture of the past. It also stands out for its bars, restaurants, tango places and many antique shops.
In the heart of San Telmo is Plaza Dorrego, the oldest in Buenos Aires after the historic Plaza de Mayo. On Sundays, the most important outdoor antiques fair of the city takes place on Plaza Dorrego.
From there you can walk to Puerto Madero, La Boca, Plaza de Mayo and other important tourist attractions. San Telmo is very convenient for public transportation, it is on the Subway line and on plenty of bus lines that will take you anywhere in the city. It is a magical and charming area where you can feel the spirit of true tango and the history of Buenos Aires.
